World Day for Safety and Health at Work

FOR A SAFE AND HEALTHY WORKPLACE

  Since 1996, unions worldwide have been commemorating the victims of work accidents and occupational diseases on the day April 28 of each year.

The ILO, with its tripartite nature, accepted this initiative and turned it into an annual global event, promoted to draw attention to accidents and diseases caused by work, for their reduction and elimination.

Starting in 1999 and at the proposal of the National Commission for Safety and Health at Work, By Order of March 30, 1999, the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs of our country establishes the celebration of the Safety and Health at Work Day on April 28 of each year.

Around this date, the various convening organizations at the national and international level make statements, promote various types of events and propose and develop activities that lead to the reflection of all citizens and the institutions and organizations most related to the problem.

In this sense, each year organizations focus their attention calls on one topic or a small number of occupational health and safety topics that they consider especially significant on a global level.

Information and the maximum extension of the commemoration must play a crucial role in all activities since the priority intention is to reach the maximum number of people and institutions, to promote concern about this problem and to promote measures that lead to its solution. The choice of slogans has the purpose of synthesizing the objective into a message that allows maximum communicative effectiveness in the desired result.  
   
This year 2007 the International Labor Office (ILO) has chosen to promote the motto For a safe and healthy workplace, and the International Trade Union Confederation(CSI) address the causes of occupational and environmental cancers, demand the development and implementation of health and safety standards and build on previous campaigns on asbestos and HIV/AIDS in the workplace.

Fraternidad Muprespa, within its activities related to the prevention of occupational risks, has been adhering to the meaning of said commemoration for several years and carrying out activities to promote occupational health of an informative nature.
