The Mutual Collaborator with Social Security Fraternidad-Muprespa celebrated in CaixaForum Madrid the III National Meeting on Occupational Safety and Health under the title “The other view of occupational risk prevention.”

The event focused on one of the great challenges that risk prevention must face: being able to offer personalized protection adapted to women, eradicating the tendency to consider the protection of workers under a model of neutrality, underestimating the risks to which women are exposed in the development of their work.

Natalia Fdez. Laviada, deputy general director of Prevention, Quality and Communication, presented and led the event whose institutional opening was carried out by the Managing Director of the Mutua,Carlos Aranda, which highlighted that for Fraternidad-Muprespa “ The integration of the gender perspective is not something new, nor a passing fad since we firmly believe in the creation of a preventive gender culture, both internally and in our associated companies and in society”.
The day was structured in three tables. The first of them was titled WWW=Working Woman'S World and was moderated by Jaime Sánchez-Cano, director of Endesa's Joint Prevention Service. He participated in it Montserrat Garcia, head of the Occupational Health area of the General Directorate of Public Health, Quality and Innovation, of the Ministry of Health, Consumption and Social Welfare, who spoke about the importance of reliable data to adopt prevention policies and monitor their effectiveness, since “Not knowing the different ways workers get sick can lead to discrimination.”.

Ana García de la Torre, Secretary of Occupational Health and Environment of the Federal Executive Commission of UGT, stated that working women face risks such as vertical gender segregation in which men occupy most of the management positions. Added to this are the problems of reconciling personal and professional life since the belief still persists that housework and the care and education of children are “women thing”. He also highlighted the importance of valuing the occupational health and safety strategy promoted by social agents.
Marta Zimmermann, director of the Research and Information department of the National Institute of Safety and Health at Work, INSST, who has recently published “Working conditions according to gender in Spain”, stated that 47% of employed women have a vocational training or bachelor's degree, while among men this percentage is ten points lower, an imbalance that is observed in almost all sectors.

Asuncion Martinez, general director of the Concessions Division of Grupo Suez Spain, detailed the points of improvement and conciliation that they have in their company, which has implemented an Equity Department. These are flexible hours, continuous working hours for pregnant women, extension of breastfeeding leave, extension of paid leave to accompany medical visits, adaptation of the day for parents of children under three years of age or dependent family members and adaptation of the work calendar to the school calendar.

Miryam Hernandez, director of the Asturian Institute for Occupational Risk Prevention, listed the progress of the INGEPRE project, carried out under a collaboration agreement signed between the Asturian Institute for Occupational Risk Prevention, the Asturian Women's Institute and Fraternidad-Muprespa. The fundamental objective of the project is to lay the foundations for the effective integration of the gender perspective in the preventive field and highlighted that “The biggest problem we found in preparing the study was access to companies and their low participation”.

Finally,Sea Basin, Safety and Health Manager at Enagás, explained that the first challenge that must be solved in the company is to understand and make certain preventive scenarios understood beyond pregnancy and maternity."At Enagás we have 116 equal opportunity measures, ranging from general campaigns to individual advice. They have also launched the "Your health, your best talent" program, which tries to promote health care for those diseases that are predominantly female, such as migraine or circulatory problems.".

In the second debate table, held under the title “Mujer Éxito S.A.”, served as moderator Antonio Diaz, vice president of the Spanish Association of Occupational Prevention Services (AESPLA) and director of Operations of the Association for the Prevention of Accidents (APA).

Begoña Suarez, deputy general director for Entrepreneurship, Equality in Business and Collective Bargaining for Women of the Institute for Women and Equal Opportunities, assured in her turn that, according to various scientific studies, women have more developed aspects such as planning, analytical capacity, decision making or problem solving but continue to suffer, as their main handicap, the lack of co-responsibility, since conciliation is a concept that has historically been related to the woman

The founder of the TOP100 Women Leaders Ranking in Spain, Retos engageMEN and CEO of Mujeres&Cía,Mercedes Wullich, detailed the characteristics of leadership.“Although it is difficult, because there is no single category of leadership, in general it is about determination, believing in what you do, doing it with passion, not giving in in bad times and working as a network”. Wullich added that those with more responsibilities have the duty to speed up the times so that the achievements reach others.

Margaret of Cos, president of the Global Summit of Women in Spain and member of its International Planning Committee (IPC), began her presentation by ensuring that women are an important economic agent since they are the ones who mostly make decisions to purchase products and services."It is essential for organizations to recognize female talent and training. It is not only fair, desirable or ethical, it is economically important".

Ana Fdez. Laviada, executive director of Global Entrepreneurship Monitor Spain, summarized the reality of female entrepreneurship in Spain and in the world. With more than 3,000 annual surveys to assess data and eradicate myths, some of the results obtained reveal that women show more reluctance to undertake entrepreneurship than men.

“The data from our country are not so negative since Spain is one of the six countries with the smallest gap between female and male entrepreneurship”, he assured.
The third table,“From Hygía to Alexa” was moderated by the doctor Juan José Muñoz, director of Occupational Risk Prevention at Bankia.

The doctor Lourdes Tomas, president of Médico Mentor, assured that women can, and should do, a lot for their health for two reasons: for themselves and because, in general, they still “We are the ones who deal, most of the time, with the care and support of children and elders”. Taking care of women's health is almost an obligation for the way of life we lead, where lack of rest, poor nutrition and overexposure of the nervous system to too many stimuli have become the norm.

Patricia Sanz, vice president of the ONCE General Council for Equality, Human Resources and Institutional Culture and Digital Inclusion, described the work of ONCE when working on female diversity.“The ONCE Social Group develops the same prevention policy for its more than 72,000 workers, with possible differences based on the type of work to be performed by each of them, but not on gender or disability.”. He also detailed how the wage gap between men and women without disabilities is replicated, downwards, between men and women with disabilities.“There is double discrimination against disabled women, and we must fight against it.”” he concluded.

The doctor Paloma Fuentes, Happiness manager of Mahou-San Miguel, pointed out in his speech that disruptive results are not achieved without changing people's behaviors."The only thing that has not changed in society from the times of Hygía to those of Alexa is the brain. All health, physical and mental, is in the brain, which is the main asset to take care of".

The Southern territorial director of Fraternidad-Muprespa, doctor Sonia Medrano, explained what we talk about when we talk about health, business and women."As a woman, there is a lot of tenacity at home and in the mutual insurance company. As a woman, I have always felt supported, by great women and by great men who have given me all kinds of opportunities. Medrano detailed the characteristics of the SEGO guide, which helps protect women more. "Pregnancy is a stage of greater vulnerability, not of illness. “Employers must eradicate possible risks for pregnancy”, he stated.

Finally Xialei You, technical director of the ORP International Foundation and scientific director of the ORP Conference, spoke about diversity and the scientific gap at work.“Fortunately it is getting smaller and smaller and this is seen, for example, in more technical courses at universities”.
