# Fraternidad-Muprespa participates in two pioneering shoulder and knee surgeries

Fraternidad-Muprespa has participated in a teaching activity in the field of Spanish traumatology consisting of the live broadcast of two complex surgeries on a cadaveric model.

The initiative, led by the Traumatology and Orthopedic Surgery Service of the Fraternidad-Muprespa Habana Hospital, has allowed real-time connection during surgeries with professionals linked to the Mutua. The activity was carried out by a team of five surgeons specializing in shoulder and knee surgery of the Hospital Fraternidad‑Muprespa Habana, headed by doctor Alvaro Minuesa, head of the Traumatology Service: Unit heads, doctors Vicente Diez (Lower Member) and Ignacio Gonzalez (Upper Member), together with traumatologists Javier Fraga  y Gabriel del Monte.

Dr. Minuesa moderated the event and made live comments and contributions on the work carried out, in addition to leading a subsequent debate with those who followed the broadcast, professionals from the Fraternidad-Muprespa Havana Hospital, traumatologists from other centers of the Mutua, also from the Intermutual Hospitals of Levante and Euskadi and from the centers of the +Compromiso alliance.

#### The interventions: knee and shoulder, applied innovation

The 90-minute session included two knee surgeries and one shoulder surgery. The first was a surgery knee arthroscopy which consisted of performing a meniscal suture with a new systemall-insideand a second surgery that consisted of the reinsertion of a completely arthroscopic meniscal root. After preparing the shoulder piece, surgery was performed on this joint, consisting of a autologous augmentation  of a suture of the supraspinatus tendon  with crushed biceps.

This technique, developed jointly by Arthex and the Fraternidad-Muprespa Habana Hospital, constitutes one of the Hospital's lines of research and Dr.Martha Perez, traumatologist at the Upper Limb Unit.

“The interventions developed in the knee are very commonly used in meniscal pathology, which is very frequent and prevalent at Mutua. The shoulder graft is a technique that allows not to use allograft, that is, a cadaver graft, and to use one from the patient's own tissue, which, in addition to contributing to the optimization of healthcare resources, reduces possible adverse immunological reactions."said Dr. Minuesa, who added that"These activities are highly valued in the international professional environment, in addition to influencing why traumatology is so important in an entity like ours.”

Participation in this type of initiatives represents a high-value opportunity for the continuous training of Fraternidad-Muprespa professionals, favoring the exchange of experiences with leading specialists and the incorporation of new techniques and surgical procedures. This transfer of knowledge directly results in the improvement of clinical practice and contributes to offering increasingly advanced, safe and effective care, with the ultimate objective of optimizing the functional recovery of workers protected by the Mutual Fund.
