# NEW TABLE ON SOCIAL SECURITY OCCUPATIONAL DISEASES.

ROYAL DECREE 1299/2006, of November 10, which approves the list of occupational diseases in the Social Security system and establishes criteria for their notification and registration.

The Declaration for Social Dialogue, signed in July 2004 by the Government, union organizations and business organizations, established the general framework of priorities in the socio-labor field, within which special attention is paid to the Social Security system.

On July 13, 2006, the signatory parties of the aforementioned declaration signed an Agreement on Social Security measures, which includes the approval of a new list of occupational diseases that, following Commission Recommendation 2003/670/EC of September 19, 2003, relating to the European list of occupational diseases, adapts the current list to the current production reality, as well as to the new production and organizational processes. Likewise, it was agreed to modify the notification and registration system, in order to bring hidden occupational diseases to the surface and avoid underreporting of such diseases.

The main aspects of said agreement are:

* 1- Approval of a new table of occupational diseases as well as the complementary list of diseases.
* 2- Modification of the mechanism for initiating the occupational disease process currently in force, in the following terms: The managing or collaborating entity that assumes the protection of professional contingencies must prepare and process the corresponding occupational disease report, in the terms established by the application and development provisions. In addition, the company must provide the managing or collaborating entity with the information in its possession and that is required for the preparation of the report indicated in the previous section.
* 3- Communication of diseases that could be classified as professional. When the doctors of the National Health System, on the occasion of their professional actions, become aware of the existence of a disease included in Annex 1 that may be classified as professional, or one of those included in Annex 2, and whose professional origin is suspected, they will communicate it for the appropriate purposes.
