# The fourth SafetyTalks focuses on conscious persuasion to strengthen the preventive culture

General

The training itinerary of the Prevencionar website, SafetyTalks, focused in its fourth edition on “Conscious persuasion to prevent risks”, defining it as a tool to improve communication and promote safe behaviors in the work environment.

Rafael Delgado, Prevention consultant at Fraternidad-Muprespa, was again the webinar speaker and opened the session by dismantling the idea that there are 'universal laws' or 'infallible secrets' to influence others. As he pointed out,“this is about people… more specifically about people's brains”,remembering that each individual processes information differently and that effective communication always depends on the context.

He explained that in prevention, three means of communication are usually used: coercion, imposition by authority and conscious persuasion. The first two, he stated, can work in the short term, but they hardly generate real commitment.“If we want to communicate in the medium and long term, the key is conscious persuasion”.

The consultant detailed the pillars of this methodology, starting with the importance of generating trust, an element that he considered essential for any persuasive process. To do this, it is necessary to avoid three fears that block psychological security: rejection, incompetence and lack of autonomy. From there, he proposed four actions to strengthen the communicative relationship: take into account the context, become equal to the other person, listen actively and declare interest explicitly.

The session moved towards the design of the persuasive message, which must be clear, concise and adapted to the identity and values of the interlocutor. Delgado recalled that“less is more”and that the message must be congruent with both verbal and non-verbal language.

Finally, he addressed the role of emotion, essential to connect and activate the values of those who receive our message.“People are emotional beings; if we want to persuade, emotion has to be in the equation”.

SafetyTalks IV once again highlighted the importance of communication skills in prevention, reinforcing Fraternidad‑Muprespa's commitment to a more humane, conscious and effective preventive culture.
