It's about the doctors Maria Victoria Serrano, doctor specializing in Family Medicine at the Fraternidad-Muprespa delegation in Osuna, Inmaculada Rodríguez, Deputy Territorial Assistance Coordinator of Fraternidad-Muprespa in Puente Genil, Córdoba, and Andres Molina, general medicine doctor at the Mutua Provincial Directorate in Seville. The communication with which they have won this award is titled "Electrification accident. I'm alive!!!" and recounts the medical and personal evolution of a 26-year-old young man, an electrician by profession, who received an electric shock of 15,000 volts while climbing a high-voltage tower. The patient suffered the amputation of both arms, the right leg and a finger on the left leg. Given his age and the limitations he presented, a prosthetic solution was proposed to provide him with greater autonomy. Due to the extreme difficulty of the case - there are no patients described in the medical literature who have survived such a high voltage current - state-of-the-art prosthetic components were selected so that he could eat, drink or clean himself. The prostheses implanted in the arms replace the three joints, shoulder, elbow and wrist, and allow the patient to take them off and put them on without help. Also carry out actions such as writing or drawing. In parallel, neuropsychological therapy and multidisciplinary rehabilitation were carried out so that the different muscle groups allowed the patient to reach their maximum functionality. All this work has allowed the patient, who has always shown an admirable desire to improve, a satisfactory evolution that made it possible to shorten the time of hospital admission and achieve medical discharge before one year had passed since the incident. Dr. Serrano has pointed out the pride that the award represents for the team and has especially highlighted the work of the Mutuals. “It is key to reiterate the fundamental role of the Mutual Insurance Companies in the face of an unfortunate work accident like this one, where a multidisciplinary team has worked (surgery, personalized rehabilitation, pain unit, prosthetists, neuropsychology…) through good health management with a single purpose: to seek the greatest benefit and protection of the injured person, both for their reintegration into work if possible, and for their adaptation to daily life,” he indicated.
