The Fraternidad-Muprespa Habana Hospital is Platinum. The prestigious American entity US Green Building Council has awarded the LEED Healthcare Platinum Certificate, the highest certification that accredits the sustainability of the center, and excellence in design and construction from an environmental point of view. The Hospital thus becomes a benchmark in sustainable construction, in the use of non-polluting materials, energy efficiency, comfort for patients and healthcare professionals, waste management, reduction of the carbon footprint and priority in the use of regional resources.

USGBC is a non-profit association whose mission is to optimize the way buildings are designed, constructed and operated from an environmental perspective; The tool with which it fulfills its mission is the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) program. Obtaining “credits” for a building in each of the evaluated categories means that the certificate is silver, gold or platinum. Only USGBC can grant “credits” through a rigorous documentary verification process through its “LEED-Online” cloud system.

The Fraternidad-Muprespa Habana Hospital has achieved 86 points, the maximum obtained by a hospital center to date. The main categories evaluated are the following:

* Sustainable development of the plot on which the building sits.
* Energy efficiency and reduction of emissions into the atmosphere.
* Use of renewable energies.
* Efficiency in water consumption.
* Selection of sustainable materials and waste management during construction.
* Improvement of environmental quality within the building.

The final result of the LEED project of the Fraternidad-Muprespa Habana Hospital can be consulted at the [USGBC website](https://www.usgbc.org/projects/hospital-fraternidadmuprespa-habana?view=overview) and in this [video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZeit89fC28).

Some of the achievements achieved during the LEED construction process are the following:

* Savings in energy consumption of 43% compared to a reference building (ASHRAE methodology) that had not implemented energy efficiency improvements.
* Generation, through a photovoltaic solar roof, of 10% of the total electrical energy consumed in the hospital.
* Use of solar thermal energy to produce 90% of the hospital's daily domestic hot water consumption.
* Achievement of the building's energy efficiency certificate under rating A, both in non-renewable primary energy consumption and CO2 emissions.
* Reduction in water consumption through the recovery and treatment of recyclable water.
* Installation of more than 2,000 square meters of biocidal photocatalytic flooring that contributes to indoor air quality.
* Absence of volatile organic compounds (VOC) in the construction of the building.
* Three green roofs with 660 square meters, which contribute to reducing the heat footprint of the building.

The location of the building, central, accessible and next to different forms of public transportation, contributes to urban sustainability. It also offers a 200-space car park that has 17% eco-parking spaces with charging points for electric vehicles. Outside, there is parking for bicycles.

The magnificent thermal and acoustic insulation, the choice of lighting and the possibility of offering occupants their own control of their conditions, make up a space that offers patients, companions and workers the optimal conditions to live in it.

Another aspect in which the Fraternidad-Muprespa Habana Hospital is a leader is digitalization. Wi-Fi networks, intelligent building control, electronic medical records, automatic medication dispensing, real-time patient location using Bluetooth technology, automatic patient ordering system in emergencies and consultations, logistical control with digital Kanban methodologies, patient-nurse communication over IP technology, are some of the digital technologies that have been implemented in the Hospital. But above all, integrated or digital operating rooms stand out, which can handle image and video signals to enrich the capabilities of surgeons, open the surgical session to other specialists, and turn the operating room into a space for collaboration between professionals.

With an area of 14,000 square meters spread over four floors above ground and three below ground, the center has an emergency service, 50 individual rooms, 16 specialty consultations, diagnostic imaging services, a rehabilitation area for inpatients, a surgical block with three integrated or digital operating rooms, in addition to being a teaching hospital and a pioneer in research.

USGBC, the certifying entity, has congratulated Fraternidad-Muprespa for achieving this important achievement through a video in which its general director Mahesh Ramanujam sends a message highlighting the work done by all the staff involved in making the Hospital a reality.
