In this November's edition of RETLA, the magazine of the Spanish Society of Occupational Traumatology, an article has been published on “Management of osteochondral fractures of the knee” made by Dr. José Luis Bada Jaime, traumatologist at the main Barcelona delegation and Dr. Javier Fraga Vicandi, traumatologist at the Lower Limb Unit of the Hospital

The article explains how osteochondral fractures are common in children, adolescents and young adults, since at these ages the subchondral bone is weak and is more at risk of injury.

These fractures do not always require surgical treatment and although they are minor fractures, they usually affect the patella and the femur.

___They are usually seen in cases such as patella dislocations or knee injuries at the level of the femur both in the context of tibial plateau fractures and in injuries with ligamentous involvement and meniscal.

In some cases they can go unnoticed, leading to a lack of diagnosis and treatment, which can affect the future of the knee joint. Furthermore, these fractures require correct treatment due to the high risk of ending in osteoarthritis if management is not appropriate.

In the conclusions they point out how the treatment should be planned, assessing the existence of concomitant injuries, the patient's history and the viability of the osteochondral fragment, to consider the most suitable repair technique. appropriate.
