Publication of new EU guidelines on Asbestos
Asbestos was widely used for decades throughout Europe in multiple applications and is still found in large quantities in buildings and infrastructure. Suspended fibers are very resistant when inhaled and can cause, among other conditions, mesothelioma, asbestosis and lung, larynx and ovarian cancer or other diseases and has long been recognized as an important occupational carcinogen.
The European Commission has now introduced new measures to protect workers against this carcinogenic substance through updated guidelines and the revision of the list of occupational diseases, measures that aim to reduce exposure to asbestos and the risks of cancer.
The guidelines provide clear and structured advice, drawn up with input from EU-OSHA, and include numerous photos and case studies that highlight good practice across Member States, and present a holistic and realistic picture of asbestos management in the EU in sectors such as construction, renovation and maintenance.
At Fraternidad-Muprespa we plan to address this issue in the preventive culture webinar that we will hold on day February 24 at 09:30 a.m. and which will be titled: "Risk management of materials containing asbestos" In which we will have as a guest Rafael Hidalgo Fernández from the National Institute of Silicosis.
