October 29, 2025. Today marks World Stroke Day, a day that seeks to raise awareness about the importance of detecting and acting in time in the face of one of the main health emergencies that affect the world's population. In Spain, more than 130,000 people suffer a stroke every year, and prevention in the work environment can play a decisive role in reducing this number.

From training in early detection among workers.

What is a Stroke?

Stroke also known as cerebrovascular accident, embolism or apoplexy occurs when blood flow to the brain is suddenly interrupted. It can be ischemic (due to obstruction of an artery) or hemorrhagic (due to rupture of a blood vessel).
In our country, it is the leading cause of disability in adults and the leading cause of mortality in women.

Recognize a stroke with the F.A.S.T rule.

In the work environment, detecting symptoms early can save lives . The ruleF.A.S.T. is a simple tool to recognize warning signs:

  • Face: facial drooping or asymmetry.
  • Arms: difficulty raising one of the arms.
  • Speech: alterations or difficulty in communicating.
  • Time: if you have any of these symptoms, immediately call 112.

Time is of the essence, treatment is most effective during the first hours and can avoid serious consequences.

Risk factors and prevention in the work environment

In occupational risk prevention, cardiovascular health must occupy a priority place. The main risk factors associated with stroke include:

  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol (LDL)
  • Atrial fibrillation
  • Diabetes and obesity
  • Smoking and alcohol or drug use
  • Sedentary lifestyle, especially in office work

Promote healthy work environments It means promoting physical activity, establishing active breaks, promoting balanced eating campaigns and carrying out periodic medical check-ups. These measures not only improve the health of workers, but also reduce absenteeism and increase productivity.

Training and awareness

With the aim of continuing to advance in prevention, we offer Online cardiovascular health and prevention workshops through our platform Prevention Classroom .
These courses are aimed at companies and mutual workers, and address in a practical way how to recognize the warning signs, identify risk factors and act quickly and effectively in the event of a possible stroke.

A commitment to life

On this World Stroke Day, Fraternidad-Muprespa reiterates its commitment to the safety, prevention and well-being of all workers.
