25N: campaigns to eliminate violence against women are still necessary
Fraternidad-Muprespa this November 25 joins the campaign that, on the occasion of this date, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, has been presented by the Ministry of Equality.
This is a date on which it is still necessary to claim that no woman can be subjected to violence for the fact of being one. In 2022, with one month left until the end of the year, 38 women have been murdered, bringing this terrible count since 2003 to 1,171. 26 minors have been orphaned for this reason in the current year, bringing the total to 365 since 2013.
On this occasion the social awareness campaign is directed, and for the first time in 25N, to men through the slogan "So Who?" It thus seeks a direct address to them as the cause of violence against women, leaving aside the pacts of silence, while encouraging them to become an essential part of the end of this violence.
The data on gender violence in Spain are devastating, as previously stated, but no less so are those relating to calls to the 016 service, the first step that the victim can climb to reverse the situation of violence.
In October alone, almost 8,000 calls were received at that number, about 3.5% more than in October 2021. Of these calls, 83.8% were related to gender violence and 16.2% were related to other forms of violence.
Communications were also received through WhatsApp, in October, a total of 473, again, mostly queries related to gender violence.
Last September, a new communication channel for the 016 service became available to citizens: an online chat available through the website of the Government Delegation against Gender Violence. In this new channel, 665 queries were made. Nine out of ten were related to gender violence.
