Agrosecurity and Fraternidad-Muprespa united for healthy, safe and healthy work in the agricultural sector

Fraternidad-Muprespa, Mutual Collaborator with Social Security and AGROSECURITY maintain a collaborative relationship to disseminate and promote healthy, safe and healthy working conditions within the agriculture sector. This ongoing collaboration pursues, among others, the following objectives:

• Raise awareness about the importance of adopting safe attitudes by both employers and workers.
• Promote preventive culture incorporating prevention into day-to-day tasks.
• Avoid unsafe behaviors.
• Give answer to the existing deficiencies in the treatment of occupational safety and health in the agricultural sector.
• Spread regulations, studies and practices for the development of the promotion of good practices.

It should be noted that, during the past year, there have been a total of 35,512 accidents with sick leave within the agricultural sector, which shows the need to promote safe attitudes to reduce this number of accidents. Although there are no official figures on how many of these accidents are due to tractor overturning, it is estimated that there have been around 60 to 70 deaths per year due to this event. Many of these deaths are due to the lack of installation on the tractor itself of an anti-rollover protection structure, as reflected in the survey carried out in 2009 by the National Institute of Safety and Health at Work(INSST) where it was found that 23% of the tractors did not have this type of protection structure.
For this reason, in the '1st International Meeting on Occupational Safety and Health in the Agricultural Sector and the Food Industry' Fraternidad-Muprespa ha impartido un taller sobre 'Vuelco de tractor' donde los asistentes han podido conocer los factores que provocan el vuelco de un tractor y las diferentes medidas preventivas que se pueden aplicar para controlar dicho riesgo. They have also been able to attend a demonstration of the use of the stabilometer, a device that, installed on the tractor, warns of the risk of overturning when certain inclination parameters are exceeded. 
The collaboration between both entities will continue in successive phases to promote occupational risk prevention and good practices in the field of agriculture as main objectives.
