December 3, International Doctor's Day: safety is key
Every December 3, International Doctor's Day is celebrated, a day that pays tribute to all medical professionals who carry out their main functions: healthcare, research, teaching and administrative. All these functions make up a care scenario that focuses on the patient, always with the greatest possible efficiency.
But the focus is often on these professionals because those who are destined to cure are those who require attention and care.
According to the latest official figures from the Ministry of Health, from 2022, in that year a total of 13,210 attacks were reported in the entire health system, that is, 20 notifications of attacks per 1,000 professionals, almost five points more than in 2021.
With much higher rates of notification of these events in primary care compared to hospital care, attacks take place mostly in consultations, one in three, and range from insults and threats, the majority, to physical attacks, for reasons such as the quality of care perceived by the user.
For this reason, both the National Police and the Civil Guard have been developing awareness and information actions, with which they convey to this group the importance of being alert to possible situations where a case of violence or aggression may occur, and of reporting them.
