Fraternidad-Muprespa at the XXI Congress of the Spanish Society of Occupational Traumatology SETLA

A total of 60 healthcare professionals from Fraternidad-Muprespa participated in the XXI Congress of the Spanish Society of Occupational Traumatology SETLA which was held on December 1 and 2 at the Valencia Conference Center.This Congress is the annual reference event in Spain for occupational traumatology.

He Dr. Antonio Ortega, head of the Internal Medicine Unit of the Fraternidad-Muprespa Habana Hospital (HFMH) received the award for best oral communication"Nirmatrelvir/Ritonavir for the treatment of Covid-19 in real life in a labor mutual hospital. About a case." The work was carried out in close collaboration with Drs Hevia, Ordóñez and Batres from the Spine Unit, with Emilia Roldán from the HFMH Hospital Pharmacy and with Dr. Erice Calvo Sotelo from the Asepeyo Coslada Hospital.

With presentations, communications, clinical cases and posters that reflected their research in the field of traumatology, the medical, nursing, physiotherapy and auxiliary staff highlighted the motto of this edition "Science, Knowledge and Transfer", providing a multidisciplinary approach and a comprehensive vision of patient care in the workplace.

This has been the participation of Fraternidad-Muprespa in the XXI SETLA Congress 

The first day began with the intervention of Dr. Eduardo Hevia, traumatologist at the HFMH Spine Unit until his recent retirement, with the presentation “Study and treatment of suboccipital injuries (O, C1, C2)” and the presentation of clinical cases at the official table on “Cervical spine fractures.”

The morning continued with the presidency of the physiotherapy table on the “Physiotherapy approach to peripheral neuropathies” by María Teresa Rodriguez, physiotherapist at the Lucena, Córdoba branch, and winner of the best Physiotherapy poster in the last edition. 

The Dr. Rosa Corral, traumatologist at the HFMH Lower Limb Unit, began the afternoon session with the presentation "What to do if it goes unnoticed. Chronic injuries and sequelae" at the table on "Assessment and treatment of syndesmosis injuries in the ankle."

At the nursing table “Leading care from knowledge: role of nursing in modern mutualism”,Diana Caceres, an operating room nurse at the HFMH, highlighted in her presentation “Anesthetic techniques: from local to general” their objectives, phases, complications, advantages and disadvantages.

Yolanda Collado, physiotherapist of the Orihuela delegation, defended his presentation on the "Analysis of movement as a clinical tool and treatment through physiotherapy" at the table "Analysis of movement as a clinical tool and treatment through physiotherapy".Patellofemoral pain syndrome” according to which the ideal treatment should be physical exercise adapted to each patient.

At the same table Sara Calderon, physiotherapist of the Provincial Directorate of Barcelona, ​​closed the session with the presentation "Ergonomics and work gesture: Return to work from physiotherapy" concluding that the empowerment of the patient in therapeutic exercise and the readaptation of the worker to their work gesture is key to reducing the risk of relapses and improving their recovery.

The second day of the congress began with Dr. José Ignacio Mora, director of the IT Care Coordination and Control Center, presenting the poster "Use of Biomechanical Assessment to define the situation of a professional contingency process" highlighting that the study confirms the functionality of the use of assessment tests biomechanics in relation to permanent disability.Sandra Alegre, a nurse from the same center, participated as a moderator in the “Defense of Nursing Posters.”

Meanwhile, in the “Defense of Physiotherapy Cartels”,Jesus Gallardo, physiotherapist of the Puente Genil delegation, presented the poster "Usefulness of physiotherapy consultations and ultrasound assessment in emergency care and first healthcare visits", pointing out that the coordination of doctor and physiotherapist, together with the initial ultrasound study, allows for faster diagnosis. 

During the turn of the attending physicians, the Dr. Reinaldo Luis Márquez, from the Ripollet delegation, presented the communication “Technique for the ultrasound evaluation of the anterior cruciate ligament", concluding that said evaluation is a technique with high specificity for the initial assessment. 

He Dr. Javier David Escorihuela, from the Valencia delegation, presented in the communication "Carpal synostosis. Finding in the context of episodes of occupational accidents" two case studies on the importance of detecting this type of non-occupational congenital alterations, which are sometimes a casual finding in previously asymptomatic patients.

He continued Dr. Antonio Ortega, head of the Internal Medicine Unit of the HFMF, presenting the communication "Nirmatrelvir/Ritonavir for the treatment of Covid-19 in real life in a mutual employment hospital. Regarding a case", encouraging the need for a procedure that shortens the time to have Paxlovid available. 

“Nursing Communications” began with Elena Muñoz Winery, HFMH operating room supervisor, as moderator. in this room María José Alguacil, hospitalization supervisor, developed the communication on "Reduction of aftermath with the use of negative pressure treatment in complex wounds", which promotes healing, reduces complications and aftermath and improves the patient's quality of life.

Next Francisca Leon, HFMH Consultation nurse, presented the communication "Management of persistent stump pain in amputee patients with 8% capsaicin patches. Clinical and thermographic assessment", concluding that the work of nursing in the correct application of the technique is a fundamental factor in achieving the success of the therapy.

In communications from trauma doctors, the Dr. José Luis Bada, traumatologist from the Provincial Directorate of Barcelona, ​​gave the presentation "Turf Toe. Sports pathology of presentation in the workplace" highlighting that it is an injury related to sports practice and can be the reason for a significant functional limitation if it is not diagnosed and treated properly.

Then it was the turn of the communications from the HFMH resident doctors.Thomas Losa, MIR R4, presented the communication “Descriptive study on the extended anteromedial approach in high-energy tibial plafond fractures”, explaining the good results in this type of approach, which optimizes surgical time, sometimes allows ischemia to be dispensed with and avoids soft tissue and wound healing complications.

The participation of Mutual professionals in the congress continued with Martha Perez, MIR R3, who carried out two interventions, the communication "Functional results in Lisfranc arthrodesis in patients in the workplace. Is the AOFAS applicable to these patients?" and the clinical case "Grade IV acromioclavicular dislocation in a 2nd division soccer player. Our experience with gracilis allograft and acellular human dermis allograft", exposing the conclusions on the use of a patch as reinforcement for joint reconstruction with good clinical results that allow good functionality.

Laura Valtueña, rehabilitation supervisor of the Madre de Dios delegation in Madrid, participated as part of the SETLA Advisory Committee of the Board of Directors in physiotherapy and occupational therapy.
