Fraternidad-Muprespa collaborates with the ORP Center of Cádiz in a conference on Nanomaterials

The nanomaterials are products of increasing importance in the industry in general and especially relevance in the healthcare world, the field of electronics, and chemistry. Safety and health at work with nanomaterials currently faces a situation in which almost all aspects to be taken into account present doubts pending resolution due to limited information on their toxicology, the health effects and the effectiveness of control systems and personal protective equipment, as well as a lack of Occupational Exposure Limits (OLP) and the definition of the appropriate metric to determine exposure to these products.

Given the challenge posed by the increasingly common use of this type of materials, the Cádiz Occupational Risk Prevention Center, belonging to the Ministry of Economy, Innovation, Science and Employment in collaboration with Fraternidad-Muprespa has organized the technical conference on April 11 “ Nanomaterials and Occupational Health and Safety"The objective of the day is to try to answer these and other questions that may arise, both from a business perspective and from a technical point of view.

The event was inaugurated by Agueda Lahera, director of the Occupational Risk Prevention Center, who explained the objective of the conference and the importance of disseminating highlights of occupational risk prevention in this new technological field. The director also argued the importance that in these cases the application of preventive principles takes, for cases like this one that arises in which there is no clear bibliography or standardization.

Subsequently,Miguel Ysasi, territorial technical coordinator of Fraternidad-Muprespa, after thanking the attendees for their presence, introduced the speaker Carmen Alvarado, Technical Coordinator of the General Subdirectorate of Prevention, Quality and Communication of the Mutua.

Throughout the day, nanomaterials and basic notions of prevention were addressed, subsequently going on to present various methods for evaluating these risks. Through the magnificent exhibition we were able to confirm that the nano world (nanoscience, nanotechnology and nanomaterials) is not a question of the future but of the present that is here to stay and grow exponentially in a short time and in which the prevention of the risks associated with these materials must be applied and developed without delay, otherwise we want to run the risk of turning late to protect workers as has historically happened with the appearance of new materials and technologies.

As a culmination of this interesting and enjoyable presentation, an interesting debate was generated among the attendees that had a high degree of participation.
