The doctors Juan Pablo Aguado, Alberto Caballero y Virginia García-Reyes, have presented a poster on “Delayed repair of pectoralis major tendon rupture using semitendinosus autograft and bioabsorbable interferential screw” in the 11th ISAKOS Biennial Congress 2017- International Society of Arthroscopy, Orthopedic Knee Surgery and Sports Medicine which was held in Shanghai, China from June 3 to 8, attended by Dr.Juan Pablo Aguado.

The ISAKOS Congress is held every 2 years and continues to be considered the premier international meeting, providing a unique opportunity for attendees to share, discuss and learn the latest advances in arthroscopy, knee surgery and sports medicine.

The meeting offers a variety of presentations, live surgical demonstrations of new and established techniques, expert panel discussions, monographic courses and other activities and approaches to clinical management, combined with an overview of current controversies in orthopedic practice.

At this congress, 800 posters have been accepted, all of them in electronic format, with more than 10,000 abstracts submitted from all over the world. 4,500 medical professionals from more than 100 countries attended, which gives an idea of the magnitude and scope of the event.

During the Congress, our professionals presented the case of a patient with complete humeral avulsion of the pectoralis major tendon treated surgically two years after the injury, having to use semitendinosus autograft to achieve its insertion in bone and resorbable interferential screws were used for fixation, with an excellent aesthetic and functional result.

The conclusions obtained after the surgical treatment of pectoralis major tendon ruptures are recommended by all authors, especially for people who participate in sports or work activities that require upper body strength. In cases of chronic ruptures where direct bone repair cannot be achieved, a tendon replacement or augmentation technique must be performed.
