Fraternidad-Muprespa workers, committed to donating blood
Fraternidad-Muprespa, Mutual Collaborator with Social Security, organized on December 12 and for the fifth consecutive year, a day so that Mutual workers could donate blood. It was carried out, in collaboration with the Red Cross, at the Fraternidad-Muprespa facilities on San Agustín Street in Madrid.
This year there were 31 employees who came to donate blood. Finally, 29 were able to do it, a number higher than the previous year.
450 ml of blood is extracted from each donor and with this amount and thanks to the generosity of the donors, up to three lives can be saved.
The workers who came to donate highly valued being able to do so at their workplace. "I have donated several times, but this is the first time I have come to do so here, at work. I will definitely do so again because it is also a social function that is very consistent with the values of the Mutua," he noted.Xavier, from whose department several people came to donate. They did it during the break of a meeting and some convinced others of the importance of doing it. Another of those who encouraged his colleagues to donate was Carlos, who has been a regular donor since he was 18 and goes at least twice a year to donate. "If I am not traveling, I faithfully fulfill my commitment to donate to the Mutua. It is the fourth time I have done it. It costs nothing, it does not require any effort. It is not necessary to have gone through a risky situation to know that it is necessary to donate," he added.
Precisely a medical emergency is what convinced Jesus. A postoperative complication that affected a person close to him convinced him long ago of the importance of this altruistic gesture. “Since then I have been a regular donor but it is very comfortable to do so here, with the facilities provided by the Mutua and the Red Cross team.” Also Sonya He went to donate for the first time on the 12th, although he has done so before at other donation centers. "I am a regular donor and I sometimes receive alert messages requesting donations, but due to lack of time I can't do it. Doing it at work is much easier. Even though everyone knows it, you have to continue raising awareness and encouraging yourself. Plus it doesn't take long and it doesn't hurt," he says.
The Red Cross team that went to the Fraternidad-Muprespa offices highlighted the importance of entities making it easier for their workers to come and donate. He also recalled that in Spain the most common blood groups are A+ and 0+, therefore a greater amount of blood from both is required, along with 0-, the group considered a universal donor.
You can donate as long as you are between 18 and 65 years of age, weigh at least 50 kilos and have not suffered from diseases such as hepatitis B, C, HIV virus or syphilis. There are other very common pathologies that do not prevent you from donating, contrary to popular belief. These are type 2 diabetes or hypertension, which are not an obstacle to collaboration as long as it is a pharmacologically controlled disease.
The recommendations that must be followed after having donated are very simple: drink plenty of fluids, walk or move to avoid drops in blood pressure, do not smoke or drink alcohol until after two hours or do not play sports until 12 hours later, among others.
