The Ministry of Health has determined that since Wednesday, January 10, the use of masks is mandatory in all health centers. Fraternidad-Muprespa has already applied the measure in its healthcare centers since that date.

According to the communicated order of the Minister of Health, Mónica García,  the measure is adopted because the seasonal waves of influenza, COVID-19 and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) infection are being “experienced simultaneously,” which in the case of influenza is occurring with a higher intensity than the seasonal one. previous”.

The order stipulates that the declaration of coordinated actions will take effect “until the end of its validity is approved by the Minister of Health, with prior agreement of the Interterritorial Council of the National Health System.”

The text justifies the adoption of this measure in that “we are still in an ascending phase and it is likely that it will take a few more weeks until the epidemic curve begins to decline.”

The use of a mask is a fundamental tool in controlling the transmission of infectious diseases through the respiratory route. Its use by the sick person reduces the emission of secretions when breathing, speaking, shouting, coughing or sneezing. In addition, it constitutes a physical barrier for the receiver.
