Second place in the Energy Efficiency Awards for the Fraternidad-Muprespa Havana Hospital
Its sustainability, architectural characteristics and efficiency in the execution of the work have helped the Hospital The category in which it received the award was “best performance in energy efficiency”.
Granted by the Association of Energy Efficiency Companies, it has been assessed that the center, whose doors opened last April, stands out for its south-facing architectural design, its passive solar protection, its envelope with more demanding characteristics than those required by regulations, the high level of efficiency of its equipment, the use of renewable energies, such as photovoltaic for self-consumption and solar thermal or the measures adopted in air conditioning.
Elena Iglesias, Director of Quality and Environment at Fraternidad-Muprespa was in charge of collecting the award from José Luis Fierro, CEO of Carlo Gavazzi, and Joan Groizard, CEO of IDEA.
Iglesias highlighted that the work carried out to achieve the LEED Healthcare Certificate in its highest category, Platinum, has been “demanding but very rewarding because the energy efficiency of our Hospital not only means well-being for its occupants and savings, but we are contributing to caring for the environment.”
Built between 2016 and 2018, the Fraternidad-Muprespa Habana Hospital is a center whose main service is traumatology. It provides services to 120,000 companies throughout Spain, as well as their protected workers. It has an emergency service, diagnostic imaging with magnetic resonance imaging, CT scanner and digital radiology, outpatient consultation area, two hospitalization floors with 50 individual rooms, rehabilitation gym, surgical block with three operating rooms, post-anesthetic recovery and sterilization unit.

In the category of “best performance in energy efficiency” the winning company was Automotive Sustainability BMW Group.
In the “Commitment to Energy Efficiency” category, the winner was Klepierre, a Comprehensive Energy Management company, while EUIPO, the European Union Intellectual Property Office, won second place.
The award for the best master's/degree final project went to Eva María Urbano, from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia for her work on “Virtual power plants for future energy markets” and the second prize went to Guillén Escofet from the Ramón Llull de la Salle University for a work titled “Building with wood: Utopia or reality?”
The recognition for the best Start Up went to Nabralift and the challenge of energy efficiency in wind energy, while Eco Smart Holiday Rental Homes received the second prize.
Finally, the extraordinary award went to Energy Datahub of the administration of Castilla y León and for Corporate Responsibility of Athletic Club Bilbao.
