from Tempus Center. Writer and lecturer.

FraterTalks is a virtual space where you can talk, reflect and share points of view on different aspects of occupational risk prevention, health and occupational safety, with outstanding people in each specific field.

For this first FraterTalks we will address addictions in the work environment. This is a problem that is known to exist but is rarely adequately focused on in companies. It is also known that a percentage of workplace accidents are directly or indirectly related to the consumption of alcohol and/or other drugs.

Addictions can have serious consequences, especially in those jobs that require a high degree of concentration, handling machines, vehicles or machinery and that, in addition, can compromise the safety of other workers or third parties.

All this without forgetting the obvious decline in health that addictions generate in the addicted worker himself, which translates into greater absenteeism, as well as the consequences that occur in the worker's work environment, such as the deterioration of the relationship with his colleagues and superiors, in addition to increasing psychosocial factors in the company itself.

Thus, the objective of this FraterTalk is to learn more about addictions, particularly in the work environment, how they affect the addicted worker and some keys to properly manage an addiction problem within the company.
