Fraternidad-Muprespa, committed to reducing road work accidents in Almería
In a technical day that brought together more than 120 professionals, including prevention technicians, human resources managers, fleet managers, students and social agents, l The Junta de Andalucía organized, through the Center for Occupational Risk Prevention of Almería, organized this meeting in collaboration with Fraternidad-Muprespa, the General Directorate of Traffic, Civil Guard and ATESVAN.
With this event, the regional government reaffirmed its desire to improve road work safety in the province, one of the areas where accident rates continue to grow.
During the inauguration, the territorial delegate of Employment, Business and Self-Employment,Amos García Hueso, stressed the importance of “all agents involved row in the same direction” to reduce work-related traffic accidents, both in itinere as on mission.
He also recalled that safe mobility is one of the axes of the Andalusian Occupational Health and Safety Strategy 2024-2028, which includes awareness campaigns, specific plans for SMEs and training actions aimed at risk groups.
He also highlighted the protocol signed in 2025 between the Department of Employment and DGT, whose objectives are the development of occupational road safety plans and strategies, the development of joint actions with administrations and social agents, the exchange of scientific documentation and the organization of seminars and research projects.
According to data offered at the conference, in the last six years, in Almería there have been registered 9,101 traffic accidents in the workplace, which represents an increase in 4,4%. Of them, the 70% They were sinister in itinere, mostly of a minor nature, 98%, while 1.6% were accidents serious or very serious and in 38 cases, 0 .4%, fatal.
Among the causes, the increase in activities such as the transportation of goods and home delivery services stood out, which has multiplied work trips, increasing the risk of road accidents.
Also speaking at the opening of the event were Matilde Góngora, Provincial Director of Fraternidad-Muprespa,José María Méndez Olivares, provincial head of Traffic, as well as Rafael Zafra, director of the Occupational Risk Prevention Center of Almería.
David Revillo, prevention consultant at Fraternidad-Muprespa, offered the presentation “The perception of risk in the company” and sHe stressed that the majority of traffic accidents at work do not occur due to technical ignorance, but rather due to a false sense of control. “Risk perception is the first step to avoid accidents. If we are not aware of the real danger, we do not activate self-protection mechanisms.”.
He also explained that, in many cases, workers normalize dangerous situations, such as driving in a hurry, checking their cell phone, or taking long routes without breaks, because they are part of their routine, a normalization of the most difficult risks to combat, as he stated.
Finally, he sent a clear message to companies and administrations, in conclusion: “If we want to reduce accidents, we must act on behavior, not just on regulations”.
