Risk perception

Risk perception is the subjective process through which a person evaluates the probability of suffering harm in their work environment and the severity of its consequences. In the field of occupational health and safety, this assessment directly conditions the behavior of employees: a low perception of danger usually leads to excesses of confidence, relaxation of protection measures and an increase in direct accidents.

Factors such as routine, seniority in the job, haste or lack of training decisively influence how risky situations are assumed. Frequently, habituation to dangerous tasks makes everyday threats invisible, leading to omitting the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) or ignoring established preventive procedures.
