The efficiency of the HFMH, recognized among the 101 #ForClimate Initiatives, at COP25
The Fraternidad-Muprespa Havana Hospital has been selected by the #PorElClima Community as one of the 101 business initiatives for climate actions highlighted for their great commitment to the fight against the climate emergency. The delivery of the diploma accrediting this recognition took place last Thursday at an event organized on the occasion of COP 25 in Madrid. Pedro Serrera, Deputy Director General of Information Systems and Services of the Mutua, was responsible for collecting the diploma.
A committee of experts, made up of members of the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition, the Spanish Group for Green Growth, the Spanish Network of the Global Compact, Aclima Forética and the Club of Excellence in Sustainability La Comunidad PorElClima, selected the different projects based on the corporate climate actions with the greatest weight, most innovative and most committed to the fight against climate change. The range of recognized entities covered large and medium-sized companies and also various sectors, from the circular economy, to logistics, through tourism and communications.
In the case of Fraternidad-Muprespa, the Green Mutual Fund, its commitment to reducing through its actions the pollution that causes climate change and promoting care for the planet by promoting sustainability in society has been valued. The best example of them is the Hospital https://www.Fraternidad.com/es-ES/edificio-efficiency), making it the most sustainable hospital in Europe and the fifth most sustainable in the world.
Some of the figures that concern this center are: a saving in energy consumption of 43% compared to a reference building, the reuse of 8,000 liters of new water, which allows an annual saving of almost three million liters of water and measures to ensure excellent indoor air quality, which results in optimal care for patients and employees, while being respectful of the environment.
The Mutual Fund has implemented and certified the environmental management system (ISO 14001), which ensures compliance with legal requirements and demonstrates the entity's solid commitment to the Environment. Objectives have also been established regarding the reduction of the consumption of natural resources and energy, as well as in relation to recycling and reuse of waste, with evidence such as that in the last year Fraternidad-Muprespa has reduced paper consumption by five tons.
In addition, it also calculates the carbon footprint and between 2016 and 2018 emissions have been reduced by more than 70%, which has meant avoiding the emission of almost 1,000 tons of Co2eq. Among the examples of sustainability and efficiency, at the Mutua we highlight the acquisition of electric vehicles, eco-labeled goods and the work of raising awareness and training of all staff, through annual plans, through environmental communications both internally and externally and the preparation of a Guide to Good Environmental Practices. Likewise, green energy is consumed, that is, electrical energy that comes from renewable sources, thus eliminating that from fossil fuels, which avoids the emission of greenhouse gases. To all these measures, there is added a great commitment by the entity to the digitalization and use of telematic means, avoiding both travel and the use of natural resources.
