Fraternidad-Muprespa, participated this Tuesday in the Nursing Forum organized by Stryker, a leading medical technology company that offers, among other products, medical and surgical equipment. Elena Muñoz Bodega, operating room supervisor at the Fraternidad-Muprespa Habana Hospital, participated in the event, held via streaming, who shared the Hospital's experience in the COVID stage. Representatives from other hospital centers participated with her in the Forum, with Raquel Heras, from Hospital 12 de Octubre and supervisor of Hospital de Ifema, as moderator.

In his intervention, Muñoz Bodega highlighted that for a center like the Fraternidad-Muprespa Habana Hospital it represented a certain complexity since it went, from one day to the next, from being a center that cares for patients with occupational pathologies, mostly trauma, to being a Covid hospital. “This change involved giving exhaustive training to the staff on how to put on and take off PPE, both basic and advanced or 'flyte', which was the one used by staff with close contact with patients,” says the operating room supervisor, who described that in the PPE putting area they had several “flyte” so that the staff could become familiar with it and practice how to put it on and take it off so that errors and contamination were avoided.

Likewise, at the Fraternidad-Muprespa Habana Hospital, different circuits were established, all scheduled in-person surgeries and consultations were suspended, and a large part of its professionals were dedicated to the inpatient care of these patients.  “All the staff worked together and with respect to the PPE they agree that they felt safe, that they could last the hours of the shift, that wearing them did not give a feeling of claustrophobia and that they were not hot.” It did also specify that it was necessary to adapt some elements to the user's morphology.  It is worth highlighting the involvement and great professionalism of all the staff who were at the bedside, giving everything to care for and attend to the patients in an exceptional way.
