We celebrate World Social Work Day at Fraternidad-Muprespa
On the third Tuesday of each month of March, the world day of this profession is celebrated, which is increasingly considered more necessary in society. This year, 2023, the IFSW, International Federation of Social Workers, proclaims the motto “Respecting diversity through joint social action”, which includes key words that are in themselves concepts and hallmarks of social workers, such as respect, diversity, social action and the whole.
In Fraternidad-Muprespa we want to celebrate this day by congratulating all the social workers and making visible the figure of these professionals in the Mutual Collaborators with Social Security, something unknown to many.
Social workers are responsible for promoting the development of healthy human bonds and promoting social changes that result in greater well-being for people.
As the General Council of Social Work itself explains: “In the health field they perform support functions for individuals and families immersed in processes of health difficulties, directing their interventions towards recovery, normalization and social adaptation, focusing their care practice on increasing autonomy. and the recovery of health, and guaranteeing the making of responsible decisions, respectful of self-determination, individualization and at the pace that the process of each individual requires from respect for the particularities".

We have a team made up of six social workers, who intervene in cases referred from any point in the Network of centers, as well as from the Fraternidad-Muprespa Havana Hospital, who carry out their work in coordination with the Benefits Area Special Services and the Special Benefits Commission, and in synergy with the rest of the health and administrative professionals.
These professionals are experts in empathizing with the concerns, fears, expectations and individual circumstances surrounding each patient. Its function focuses on guiding and providing the appropriate tools to reduce the effects on social life that arise from the professional contingency, this allows closing the circle of comprehensive care that each patient requires.
In this way, after providing assistance for the treatment of the physical emergency by health professionals, and processing financial coverage through benefits, it is essential to analyze the changes produced in the daily life of the patient and their environment.
The social work team is essential to ensure the quality of care and its actions are lasting over time, even more so in cases of Permanent Disability. Its work makes it possible to detect the psychosocial needs that a person may have when suffering an accident and assess the resources to rely on in the present moment in anticipation of future needs, which reduces the duration of the processes, favors recovery and contributes to avoiding relapses.
These resources can be information, guidance and advice, facilitating the understanding of the medical and administrative situation (especially cases of patients who have suffered serious accidents and are hospitalized in their own or third-party centers). They can be resources related to the work environment (position adaptation and professional guidance). They may also be intended to cover basic individual and family needs (accompaniment and care at home, help for rehabilitation and recovery, help for the adaptation of essential means and health improvements).
