20F World Day of Social Justice: a day to remember that a better world is possible
The United Nations celebrates the World Day of Social Justice every February 20, a concept underlying the idea that societies and economies can function better by reducing poverty and inequalities and helping to relax social tensions. This year, under the theme "Overcoming barriers and unlocking opportunities for social justice", the UN seeks to strengthen global solidarity and restore trust in governments.
Social justice is essential to live in a safe and peaceful world with respect for human rights and the fundamental freedoms that support them. This day seeks to promote dialogue, among others, with Member States, social partners, civil society or United Nations organizations to reduce inequalities, conflicts and the weakening of the institutions that must protect labor rights.
Building a coalition in favor of social justice is possible despite multiple crises: the key is to achieve greater investment in decent jobs, with special attention to young people and the green, digital and care economy.
The General Assembly also defends common values and objectives, which have become cornerstones of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, values that have negatively experienced the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, natural disasters caused by climate change, geopolitical tensions and armed conflicts.
In Spain “Social Justice” is the name of a foundation in charge of promoting the figure of the Social Graduate and strengthening the commitment to the formation of human capital, promoting dissemination activity in the environment of the information and knowledge society.
And the training of both leaders and workers is essential not only for the effectiveness and productivity of companies but also for the maintenance of a necessary social cohesion.
The Social Justice Foundation was born, according to its president, Ricardo Gabaldón, to act taking into account the Corporate Social Responsibility that every company or institution that can contribute something to the Community must have.
