FraterTalk#17: Mental health: make visible and destigmatize

General

Fraternidad-Muprespa organizes a new edition of Fratertalks, this time to talk about mental health, an increasingly widespread health problem since, according to the latest European Health Survey in Spain (EESE) carried out in 2020, some of the main results in mental health were the following:

  • Among the most common mental health problems are anxiety and depression.
  • 5.84% of the population aged 15 or over declared having been diagnosed with chronic anxiety, 3.50% of men and 8.06% of women.
  • The diagnosis of depression is reported in 5.28%. Like anxiety, the frequency of depression in the adult population is more than double in women 7.22% than in men 3.23%.
  • 10.86% of the population aged 15 or over reported having consumed tranquilizers, relaxants or sleeping medications in the last 2 weeks (14.19% of women and 7.35% of men) and 4.52% of antidepressants or stimulants (6.33% of women and 2.6% of men).

With these data it becomes more than necessary to make society visible and aware of mental health problems, speaking naturally about it because, as the Ministry of Health's campaign slogan says, “Let's normalize what can happen to anyone.”
