LARYNX CANCER PRODUCED BY INHALATION OF ASBESTOS AND CHROMIUM DUST INCLUDED IN THE LIST OF OCCUPATIONAL DISEASES

The Official State Gazette published on December 19, the Royal Decree 1150/2015, which modifies Royal Decree 1299/2006, which approves the list of occupational diseases in the Social Security system and establishes criteria for their notification and registration.

This text modifies Royal Decree 1299/2006, of November 10, because “ Since that date, there have been important advances in research and progress in the scientific and medical fields, which have allowed a better understanding of the mechanisms of the appearance of some occupational diseases and their connection with work.”.

The novelty lies in the fact that a new subagent is included in the list of occupational diseases caused by carcinogens,laryngeal cancer, directly related to asbestos, also listing the main activities associated with that subagent.

The jobs exposed to the inhalation of asbestos dust are those that correspond to industries in which asbestos is used (for example, asbestos rock mines, asbestos production industry, insulation work, construction work, shipbuilding, garage work, among others.
Therefore, laryngeal cancer caused by inhalation of asbestos dust is excluded from the list of diseases whose occupational origin is suspected and whose inclusion in the list of occupational diseases could be considered in the future.
