Years ago, no one imagined that a 280-character post, a 15-second story, or a simple photo with a “like” could transform the way we inform ourselves, work, and relate. Today, June 30, we celebrate the World Social Media Day, a day to reflect on the profound impact that these platforms have on our personal, professional and social lives.

Social networks have democratized access to information, given a voice to millions of people and created communities beyond physical borders. Through them:

• Brands dialogue directly with their users.
• Institutions disseminate public information in real time.
• The media use them as a channel and on many occasions as a source of information.
• Citizens mobilize, give their opinions, create content and share experiences.

At the same time, they have also raised challenges around privacy, misinformation, its overuse and how it influences mental health. Therefore, this day is also an opportunity to promote responsible, ethical and conscious use of these tools.
