The Council of Ministers approves the Strategic Guidelines on Water and Climate Change. We NOW have this key element with guidelines and measures in water planning and management in Spain to increase the country's resilience against global warming with a time horizon that looks to the year 2030.

Individual and business commitment

Heat waves, climate change in our territory, cuts and water shortages are the subject of summer news. How many years have we been seeing similar news. As everything is finite, this recent news in which the Spanish strategy to ensure efficiency, austerity, and perhaps technological renewal of our water resources and exploitations has been approved, should be broadcast preferably in said media. It is a step to try to minimize the deficiencies of natural resources and their depletion that the planet is gradually experiencing.

And at Fraternidad-Muprespa we appeal to the individual commitment of people (natural or legal). In this, companies have a lot of potential to raise awareness among their staff, the ability to invest in more efficient facilities, with less environmental impact, and to implement rational use of water.

Set as a challenge, achieving a 10 in the maintenance processes of the network of pipes, pipes, tanks, purification systems, air conditioning, clean water, dirty water, irrigation, laundry, etc., would be a huge boost to protect our natural water volumes. Added to the initiatives of the administrations, they would ensure that what is intended with this recently approved strategy would have results multiplied by at least two.

Ecological transition and individual routines

There is a high probability of decline in water resources in the hydrographic basins that currently support the main water management problems in our country. Therefore, the new strategy focuses on identifying the challenges associated with water management and the most appropriate instruments to address them.

We know that no matter how many institutional challenges arise, without the responsible habits brushed with austerity of citizens and companies as true users and final owners of water consumption, the party would be lost. Adapting personal routines in professional and personal life is in each person's hands.

Temporary roadmap

You may be wondering, what about this strategy, when? The answer is, by 2030, but crowning different annual milestones. The four major temporary challenges of this strategy are the following:

  • The approval in 2022 of the third cycle hydrological plans and the flood risk management plans.
  • The completion in 2025 of the first work program of the National Plan for Adaptation to Climate Change.
  • The completion in 2027 of the third cycle of hydrological planning and the second cycle of flood risk planning.
  • The completion in 2030 of the Strategy and the National Plan for Adaptation to Climate Change.
