Students from the Nicolás Larburu Institute of Barakaldo visit the exhibition "Prevention Posters of the 20th Century"
Students from the Vocational Training Center Nicolás Larburu recently visited the exhibition of posters on “Prevention of Occupational Risks of the 20th Century”, organized by Fraternidad-Muprespa and installed at the Integral Steel Workers Foundation of Barakaldo (Bizkaia).
This is the second time that these prevention posters, reproductions of the originals, belonging to the Veca&Mugo Collection, are exhibited in Barakaldo after last year they could be visited in the month of October.
The students listened to an introduction to the exhibition, in which they also learned about the figures for workplace accidents at the state level and in their autonomous community. Subsequently, they carried out an activity consisting of arranging some of the posters in chronological order and indicating what type of risks they were referring to. After the visit, they expressed their curiosity and interest in a form of communication so different from the current one, as well as in the phrases and images with which the posters conveyed risk prevention messages to workers.
Young people learned about the importance of risk prevention and the way it was communicated in the first half of the 20th century
This exhibition, which had not been physically visited for eight months due to the COVID-19 pandemic, once again brings visitors closer to the importance of the evolution of risk prevention. The 48 reproductions focus on the themes of safety at work, prevention and occupational health, allowing us to analyze the evolution of the image of prevention during the last century. Although due to very different circumstances, the central axis of the exhibition is fully topical, given that the COVID-19 pandemic has placed risk prevention at the center of the labor, business and social debate.
This exhibition has been seen in dozens of locations since it began its journey in 2016, such as airports, railway stations, Houses of Culture, Headquarters of the General Treasury of Social Security and also at professional conferences in the risk prevention sector. In Euskadi it can be seen for the third time, since at the beginning of last year it was installed at the Bilbao Abando-Indalecio Prieto railway station, as part of the events to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the Mutua, founded in the Biscayan capital by Escolásico Zaldívar in 1919.
