The Fraternidad-Muprespa Havana Hospital hosts the intermutual forum on pain in occupational pathology

The Fraternidad-Muprespa Havana Hospital, with the collaboration of the Spanish Pain Society (SED), has held the Intermutual Conference on Pain, a national reference meeting that has brought together specialists from different mutual societies and intermutual hospitals from all over Spain with the aim of unifying clinical criteria, optimizing therapeutic algorithms and agreeing on cost-effective protocols in the treatment of pain in the environment work.

The conference, directed by Dr. Alejandro Ortega Romero, head of the Pain Unit of the Fraternidad-Muprespa Habana Hospital, consolidates in Madrid a project started in Valencia in 2021 focused on Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), expanded in 2023 to other occupational pathologies and which now reaches its maturity as a stable forum for intermutual clinical consensus. In the presentation of this day, Dr. Ortega highlighted some data:

“Treating pain in Spain represents a cost of between 1 and 2% of the GDP. Chronic pain has a social impact that goes far beyond the direct costs. sanitary facilities”

During the opening ceremony, Dr. Sagrario Mayoralas, manager of the Fraternidad-Muprespa Habana Hospital, Dr. Álvaro Minuesa Asensio, head of the Traumatology Service, and Dr. Alejandro Ortega, who stressed that these meetings allow the transformation of scientific knowledge into clinical tools with a direct impact on the quality of care of the working patient.

The scientific program addressed in a practical way the management of shoulder and elbow pain, with the interventions of Dr. Gabriel del Monte, traumatologist at the Shoulder and Elbow Unit of the HFMH and Dr. Ignacio González, head of said Unit, together with the presentations of Dra. Paloma Morillas and Dr. Alejandro Ortega anesthetists of the HFMH Pain Unit. Next, Dr. Francisco Serrano, head of the Rehabilitation Service of Hospital Asepeyo Coslada and Dra. María Martin from the same service, addressed the issue of occupational cervical sprains.

Another of the most notable interventions has been that of D. Asier Agote, Managing Director of the Intermutual Hospital of Euskadi and Dr. José Luis Alcibar, from the Pain unit of said Hospital, developing the acute lumbosciatalgia algorithm and the cost-effectiveness analysis at the work level. Next, Dr. Noelia Calvo, also from the Pain Unit of the Intermutual Hospital of Euskadi, explained localized neuropathic pain, from the painful scar to distal amputations.

The second part of the day focused on Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, el Dr. Manuel Asensio, head of the Aftermath and PI Assessment Area of Maite Bovaira, head of the Pain Unit at the Intermutual Levante Hospital who has concluded the diagnosis and treatment news, and Dr. Rogelio Rosado, coordinator of the Pain Unit of the Fremap Hospital in Majadahonda who has developed the evidence of spinal cord stimulation and dorsal root ganglion in treatment.

The Dr. Ana Calvo, Head of Anesthesia at the Intermutual Levante Hospital, explained the chronic use of opioids in occupational pathologies and to conclude the Dr. Eva Manzano, director of the Health Management Department of Fraternidad-Muprespa and Dr.José Francisco Domenech, Managing Director of the Intermutual Levante Hospital concluded the session by commenting on the advances in the special electronic prescription.

All the presentations concluded with the development of quick guides and agreed protocols, directly applicable in daily clinical practice.

Participation of the medical teams and managers of the intermutual hospitals has also made it possible to highlight the cost-effectiveness of the proposed treatments, their impact on reducing sick leave times and improving return to work.

This conference reinforces the commitment of patient.
