A safe and healthy work environment as a principle and fundamental right at work
In 2003, the International Labor Organization (ILO) began to celebrate World Day for Safety and Health at Work,, an annual event that takes place every April 28, which aims to promote the prevention of work accidents and occupational diseases throughout the world. It is an awareness-raising campaign within the ILO's global strategy aimed at focusing international attention on the magnitude of the problem and how creating and promoting a culture of safety and health can help reduce the number of work-related deaths and injuries
For this year the motto chosen by the ILO is: "A safe and healthy working environment as a principle and fundamental right at work", an idea that is related to the inclusion last year of this concept of a safe and healthy working environment in different international reference conventions.
In June 2022, the International Labor Conference (ILC) decided to include the concept of a safe and healthy working environment in the ILO framework of fundamental principles and rights at work and the Convention on Safety and Health of Workers No. 155 and the Convention on the Promotional Framework for Safety and Health of Workers No. 187 were declared fundamental rights.
Following this decision, all ILO member states, even if they have not ratified the conventions in question, have the obligation, derived from the very fact of their membership in the organization, to respect, promote and implement, in good faith and in accordance with the constitution, the principles relating to the fundamental rights that are the subject of said conventions.
Around April 28 at Fraternidad-Muprespa we will celebrate our VIII Prevention Week, so stay tuned to our usual communication channels, website and social networks because we will soon inform you of the activities we will carry out those days.
