Fraternidad-Muprespa, together with the Labor and Social Security Inspection and the Government of the Canary Islands, organized an information day on November 30 on the impact and effects that aging can cause in the workplace.

The event was held at the Canary Islands Institute of Social Security and was widely accepted by attendees: experts in health, prevention and labor and union issues, as well as business leaders and managers.

Law 27/2011 of August 1 on updating, adaptation and modernization of the Social Security system, provides for the delay of the retirement age from 65 to 67 years; Therefore, it is necessary to raise awareness among actors about the effects that increasing age can have on prevention, absenteeism and working conditions. The fundamental axes on which prevention policies for this group must be based must respond to specific aspects such as: adequacy and determination of the jobs that are suitable; specific prevention on working conditions that in turn contemplate the affected group; behavior of these groups in Temporary Disability.

If it is desired that the extension of working life does not affect the health of the worker, it is necessary to intervene quickly, safely and continuously, to know the usual peculiarities of workers and to apply preventive measures appropriate to their situation.
