Annual report on work accidents 2022 in Spain

The INSST published last week the document titled: "Annual report on work accidents in Spain 2022".

The work includes the workplace accidents that occurred in our country during the previous year in which 653,510 work accidents with sick leave were recorded. The majority occurred during the work day, specifically 571,274 accidents, which represent 87.4%, while the rest, 82,236 accidents, took place during the journey from home to the center work or vice versa (in itinere).

Of the total number of work accidents resulting in time off work, 537,214 were suffered by the salaried working population, which represents 94.0% of these accidents. The self-employed population accounted for 34,060 accidents resulting in time off from work, representing 6.0% of them.

For its part, the activity sector with the highest incidence rate was construction, which exceeds the average of the sectoral indices by more than double. Regarding the type of accident, 29.7% of the accidents during the work day were due to physical overexertion, followed by blows or collisions against a stationary object (moving worker) (25.2%) and collisions or blows against a moving object (15.2%).

Finally, it should be noted that the report states that in 2022, 711 fatal work accidents occurred during work hours, which represent 0.1% of work accidents suffered by all salaried workers.
