Annual report on work accidents in 2019
The National Institute for Safety and Health at Work (INSST) has presented the document titled Annual report on workplace accidents 2019.
This year the report prepared annually by the INSST includes an important novelty because in 2019 more than 2.5 million self-employed workers have been incorporated into the reference population of this statistic as a consequence of the fact that, as of January 1, 2019, the specific coverage of work accidents by Social Security for those affiliated with the Special Regime for Self-Employed Workers (RETA) became mandatory on a general basis.
The most relevant data indicates that in Spain, during 2019, 650,602 work accidents with sick leave were recorded. The majority occurred during the working day, specifically 562,756 accidents, which represent 86.5%. The rest, 87,846 accidents, took place during the journey from home to the workplace or vice versa and are those called work accidents with in itinere sick leave.
Of the total work accidents with sick leave, 529,421 were suffered by salaried workers, which account for 94.1% of these accidents, while self-employed workers accounted for 33,335 accidents with sick leave during the work day, representing 5.9% of them.
