The exceptional physical-chemical characteristics of asbestos made it a widely used material in construction, vehicle parts, trains and other electronic components, however, over time, it was observed that prolonged exposure to asbestos fibers caused serious harmful effects on health so its use was prohibited.

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health has recently presented two references related to asbestos.

The first of them is a poster titled Evaluation of exposure to asbestos RD 396/2006, Can we help you with Annex IV?.

This poster attempts to facilitate the incorporation of asbestos exposure assessment data into the form in Annex IV of Royal Decree 396/2006 which establishes the safety provisions applicable to work with risk of exposure to asbestos, and whose submission to the labor authority is mandatory after the performance of any work that has required the approval of a safety plan. work.

Likewise, the INSST has also prepared a new Prevention Technical Note entitled Asbestos: Determination of fibers in air. Sampling volume.

This technical note aims to highlight the influence of sampling volume on measurements of asbestos fibers in air, clarify essential concepts for sampling and analysis (counting) of fibers, provide application examples that help improve sampling strategies and, with all of this, obtain reliable and representative measurements of exposure.
