Campaign in the Balearic Islands to protect against heat stroke
The Balearic Institute of Occupational Health and Safety (IBASAL) has launched the campaign: "Protect yourself from heat stroke" to raise awareness among workers and companies of the importance of implementing preventive measures to minimize the negative effects of occupational exposure to high temperatures.
To promote this message, they have prepared two decalogues against heat stroke for working people and for those responsible for companies or organizations.
Some of the advice they offer for workers who perform tasks with high temperatures indoors or outdoors, or with great physical activity and hot weather are:
- Request information on the risks of heat exposure, preventive measures and act accordingly.
- Avoid direct solar radiation and if you cannot cover your head and body with appropriate clothing, use sunglasses and apply sun protection.
- Drink water and/or isotonic drinks frequently, even if you are not thirsty.
- Avoid working in isolation if possible.
- If you feel any symptoms of discomfort, stop, notify a colleague and, if necessary, contact emergencies (112) to apply the established protocol.
