Conditions for the mandatory use of masks
The Official State Gazette has published the Order SND/422/2020 of May 19, which regulates the conditions for the mandatory use of a mask during the health crisis situation caused by the COVID-19.
The text states that the widespread use of masks by the general population to reduce community transmission of SARS-CoV2 is justified, not only due to its high transmissibility, but also due to the ability that masks have demonstrated to block the emission of infected droplets, very important when it is not possible to maintain a safe distance. Likewise, it is necessary to follow a precautionary principle that allows us to continue on the path of reducing cases of contagion of the disease in our country, mainly when other measures such as vaccination are not available.
The order published last Wednesday provides, in general, the mandatory use of masks in people six years of age and older on public roads, in outdoor spaces and in any closed space for public use or that is open to the public, whenever it is not possible to maintain an interpersonal safety distance of at least two meters, its use being recommended for children between three and five years.
With the mask you protect yourself and others
Exceptions to this obligation are established for those people who have some type of respiratory difficulty that may be aggravated by the use of the mask and those whose use is contraindicated for reasons of health or disability. Likewise, its use will not be required in the development of activities that are incompatible, such as the intake of food and beverages, as well as in circumstances in which there is a cause of force majeure or a situation of necessity.
The provisions of this order must be understood without prejudice to the need to continue complying with the recommendations of the health authorities regarding the maintenance of interpersonal distance, hand hygiene and other prevention measures.
