Conference on occupational exposure to solar ultraviolet radiation in fishing vessels
On June 21, the INSST organizes a virtual technical conference that aims to publicize the technical document: "Study of exposure to solar ultraviolet radiation in fishing vessels", prepared by this organization, in line with the commitment of the European Commission to study measures on exposure to solar ultraviolet radiation and with the European Strategy for Safety and Health at Work 2021-2027.
The risk of exposure to solar radiation can be considered especially relevant for professionals in the fishing sector, since they carry out a large part of their working day outdoors for many months of the year throughout their working life, which can also be more intense due to the reflection of the water surface, as well as the surfaces of the boats themselves.
During the day, the results obtained during both the personal and environmental measurements carried out will be detailed, the dermal and ocular injuries identified in a retrospective study of the effects of solar radiation on sea professionals will be specified, and a compilation of information on the photo protection habits of the crews that participated in the study will be shown.
