CSIF survey on sexual harassment and discrimination at work
Under the motto “Sexual harassment at work, zero tolerance. Report it, committed to respect and dignity” the Independent Trade Union Center and Civil Servants (CSIF) launches a campaign whose objective is to raise awareness about the social problem that any type of violence in the workplace represents, and in this specific case about sexual harassment.
Within the campaign, an anonymous survey has been developed that will be carried out among workers in public administrations and private companies to find out the true scope of this problem and whose goal is to raise awareness and make visible a reality that has not yet been registered or reported.
The latest data available from the Labor Inspection, collected by CSIF, reflect an increase in actions in recent years, although they conclude with few sanctions, mainly due to the difficulty of collecting conclusive evidence from the victim and the difficulty that reporting this type of case often entails.
The information collected from the last two years indicates that in 2017, 167 actions were carried out for discrimination based on sex, of which 3 ended in violations and another 460 actions for cases of sexual harassment that ended with 5 violations. Regarding the first half of 2018, 57 actions for discriminatory harassment based on sex were registered with 2 violations detected and 401 actions for sexual harassment that involved 3 violations.
All these data reflect a complex reality in this matter, which is why the collaboration of administrations as well as companies, workers and social organizations is essential to prevent and address these types of situations. From this union they suggest the creation of national records and statistics that reflect reality, the implementation of protocols against harassment, as well as institutional statements from companies and awareness campaigns.
In Fraternidad-Muprespa we put at your disposal within our good practices manuals the one dedicated to “Psychosocial factors” which aims to identify and analyze the main psychosocial risk factors present in the work context.
