European Guide for risk management associated with working in hot environments
The European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA) recently published the guide entitled: "Heat at work: guide for workplaces". Se is a practical guide available in different EU languages, which offers practical guidance on managing the risks associated with working in hot environments.
It must be remembered that heat stress is a risk for workers both indoors and outdoors, and in all sectors and that its severity depends on the workplace, but also on individual characteristics such as age, health, socioeconomic level and even sex. Such characteristics must be taken into account when adopting measures to address and mitigate the risks involved in working in hot conditions.
This document is aimed at both companies and workers and covers practical measures (organisational and technical) to reduce and manage heat-related risks, as well as training on this issue. It also includes simple advice on the measures to be taken if the worker shows signs of discomfort caused by the heat.
