Fraternidad-Muprespa participates in Bilbao in a conference on occupational road safety
"Occupational road safety from the point of view of the human factor" was the title of the XVI edition of the Citizen Meeting with Mobility, at the headquarters of the Association for the Progress of Management in Bilbao. The event, organized by the Real Automobile Club Vasco Navarro, included the participation of Fraternidad-Muprespa, Mutual Collaborator with Social Security.
The senior technician in Prevention of Occupational Risks of the Mutua,Carlos Maya, has participated with a presentation entitled “Costs of occupational road safety” focused on the analysis of the cost that occupational traffic accidents entail for companies and society in general, mainly the human cost.
Maya highlighted that in 2017 there were almost 600,000 workplace accidents and more than 11% of them were traffic accidents. For the mutual societies collaborating with Social Security, the amount for the 613,657 work-related traffic accidents was 1,042 million euros in the period between 2008 and 2017.
Maya recalled that "to ensure safety, we must place the driver himself as the epicenter of workplace accidents" because "he is the one who drives, who moves, who can get distracted or who can use the cell phone improperly."
He described some preventive measures that should be implemented in companies in order to reduce workplace road accidents and, consequently, the costs associated with them. These include training workers in road safety, carrying out awareness-raising campaigns, developing mobility plans, promoting and facilitating the use of car sharing and subsidizing part of the public transport card.
Finally, he looked to the future, reflecting on the arrival of the autonomous car and the reduction in costs associated with accidents that it will entail by eliminating the human factor from driving.
