Gas and vapor sampling at work
The National Institute of Safety and Hygiene at Work has published the leaflet titled “Sampling of gases and vapors, so that they do not touch your nose” about occupational exposure to chemical agents in the form of gases and vapors and the way to evaluate them in the work.
From the point of view of occupational risk prevention, occupational exposure to chemical agents in the form of particles, non-fibrous, suspended in the air such as dust, fumes or mists must generally be evaluated by carrying out measurements, these must be reliable and representative.
The equipment used for the measurement of particulate matter sucks a measurable amount of ambient air into a sampling box through a filter, for a known period of time, and the filter is then weighed before and after to determine the net weight gained.
What is sought with this document is to facilitate the work of the prevention technician who carries out said measurement, providing information on the different aspects to be considered so that the measurements to be carried out are reliable and representative of the worker's exposure.
Ten grams of prevention is equivalent to one kilogram of cure
