Goodbye to the triangle on the road
Since July 1, the new regulations that will regulate roadside assistance have been in force in our country and will force us to replace the triangles with which we now signal breakdowns or accidents on the road, with a luminous sign called V-16 which is an orange flashing luminous device.
To signal that we have stopped on the road, we will place the light device in the highest possible part of the vehicle, thus guaranteeing maximum visibility. To place it, we do not need to get out of the vehicle or walk along the road avoiding traffic, as was the case until now with the triangles. The device incorporates a geolocation system that, once activated, sends the location of the stopped vehicle to the DGT 3.0 cloud every 100 seconds, so that this information reaches other drivers.
Although it has come into force as of July 1, 2021, we can use the triangles or the new signal until 2026 and from that moment on, the only thing allowed to signal incidents will be the light signal with geolocation.
The modification of the V-16 signal occurs due to the high number of fatal accidents that occurred when drivers got out of their vehicles to place or pick them up after having suffered an accident on the road.
According to the new regulations, we will exit the vehicle if there is a safe place off the road and always on the opposite side to the flow of traffic. If we cannot exit safely, we will wait for assistance inside the vehicle with the seat belt on.
