Guidelines for the removal of installed asbestos
The document titled: "Guidelines for the removal of installed asbestos" has recently been published, a joint work in which personnel from the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy have participated through the National Institute of Safety and Health at Work.
The document constitutes a non-binding methodological guide aimed at city councils to support them in the preparation of municipal asbestos censuses according to the obligation derived from the fourteenth additional provision of Law 7/2022, of April 8, on waste and contaminated soils for a circular economy, and as long as other regulatory regulations that develop said provision are not approved.
The objective is to establish guidelines for the preparation of a census of facilities and sites with asbestos in a harmonized manner throughout the national territory, which allows prioritizing its removal based on criteria of danger and exposure to the most vulnerable population. The application of these guidelines must allow, firstly, the location of buildings and sites suspected of containing asbestos-containing materials, their subsequent identification and finally the assessment of the potential risk that enables decision-making for their correct management and preparation of the schedule to plan their removal.
