ILO report on prevention of violence and harassment at the workplace
A new report from the International Labor Organization (ILO) points out that occupational health and safety measures are key to building an inclusive, integrated and gender-sensitive approach to prevent and eliminate violence and harassment in the world of work.
The document titled: "Preventing and addressing violence and harassment in the world of work with occupational health and safety measures" remembers that more than one in five employed people has experienced violence and harassment, a problem that can affect all types of workplaces and can occur during commuting, work-related travel, events, digital communications, social activities and in home offices.
The work emphasizes that OSH frameworks address the root causes of violence and harassment by addressing underlying risks, such as inadequate work organization, factors related to specific tasks (for example, working alone or constantly interacting with third parties), and working conditions that produce high levels of stress that, in turn, lead to violence and harassment.
