Silicosis is a lung disease caused by prolonged exposure to crystalline free silica dust that, when inhaled, accumulates in the lungs, causing pulmonary fibrosis, respiratory failure and in some cases can cause lung cancer.

In Andalusia, the Andalusian Institute for the Prevention of Occupational Risks has been developing educational material aimed at raising awareness of the risks derived from exposure to free crystalline silica in the handling of quartz agglomerates, and holding information and awareness days on safety in material working conditions as part of the Andalusian Occupational Health and Safety Strategy 2017-2022.

Continuing with this type of actions, they have prepared and disseminated a thematic newsletter on preventive news and two brochures titled Prevention of silicosis in quartz agglomerate work, for companies and prevention services with the aim of promoting occupational health in this type of activities.

In these documents they deal with safety and health at work with quartz agglomerates, which is a material used in the manufacture of covering plates, kitchen countertops and wall or bathroom floors, among others. Preventive measures in working with these materials, health surveillance, risk control measures as well as obligations for the employer and workers are discussed.

At Fraternidad-Muprespa we are committed to safety and health at work and we have the objective of disseminating an adequate preventive culture for which we have a large number of infographics and brochures on our portals Previene and Health Corner with management topics, occupational risk prevention and health promotion that we encourage you to consult.
