The National Institute of Safety and Health at Work (INSST) has published on December 1 the document entitled: INSST technical criteria with personal protection measures against the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus: concepts on its use in the workplace.

The authors indicate that this document reflects the state of the art at the time of its writing and will be adapted, in the event that new evidence or scientific knowledge arises that affects what is established regarding protection measures, limiting its scope of action to the duration of the pandemic.

This technical criterion aims to clarify concepts related to the use of masks in the workplace against the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus and will apply exclusively to situations in which all of the following circumstances occur:

  • That its use is carried out in the workplace.
  • That the person who uses the equipment is always a working person. Therefore, any consideration that may be applicable to the community as a whole that is not limited to the working personnel who provide their services in the workplace is excluded.
  • The only protection considered is that against the transmission of or infection by SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus and any consideration regarding protection against risks other than those caused by this coronavirus is excluded.
