The Madrid Regional Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (IRRST) has recently published the document entitled: "Interpretive criteria relating to accreditation requirements for an External Prevention Service. Responsibility policy".

Given the influence that External Prevention Services have on the safety and health of workers, the administration established a system that aims to control both the requirements for obtaining accreditation of these entities and the maintenance of these requirements for their operation. This system was regulated by RD 39/1997 of January 17 which approved the Regulation of prevention services and its implementing regulations.

Within the entire scope of action and responsibility of these entities, the objective of this publication is to establish and disseminate, for the knowledge of all parties involved, the interpretative criteria applied by the IRSST in relation to the indeterminate regulatory requirement, imposed on entities accredited as a third-party prevention service of "having an insurance policy or equivalent financial guarantee that covers their liability."
